Okay, so I’ve been rocking this curly hair for a while now, and I’ve learned a thing or two about keeping it in check. Let me tell you, it’s not always easy, but it’s totally worth it. I used to struggle with my curls, but I’ve finally cracked the code.
My Curly Hair Routine
-
Washing: First off, I don’t wash my hair every day. I mean, it’s important to keep it clean, but washing it too often? That’s a no-go. It just dries out my curls, and they look like a mess. I stick to washing it every other day, or sometimes even every two days. But I wet my hair every day.
-
Conditioning: This is the key, folks. After I rinse, I slap on a good amount of conditioner. My curls just drink it up. I use a wide-tooth comb to detangle, starting from the ends and working my way up. This helps prevent breakage and keeps my curls looking smooth. I leave the conditioner in for a few minutes to let it work its magic. You gotta let it soak in, you know? It’s like giving your hair a big, hydrating hug.
-
Drying: I used to be all about that towel life, rubbing my hair like crazy. Big mistake. It just creates frizz. Now, I gently squeeze out the excess water with an old t-shirt or a microfiber towel. The key is not to disturb the curls too much. Let them air dry if you can, or use a diffuser on your hairdryer. Keep it on a low setting, though. Too much heat is not your friend.
-
Styling: When my hair is still damp, I apply a leave-in conditioner or a curl-defining cream. I scrunch it in, encouraging the curls to form. Sometimes I’ll use a little bit of gel for extra hold, but not too much. You don’t want that crunchy, stiff look. And that’s it! I let my curls do their thing.
It took me a while to figure all this out. I tried a bunch of different products and techniques. Some worked, some didn’t. But I kept at it, and now I’m pretty happy with my curls. They’re not perfect, but they’re mine. And I’ve learned to embrace them. They make me stand out, in a good way. If you’re struggling with your curly hair, don’t give up. Keep experimenting, find what works for you, and own those curls!
