Okay, so, I hit the gym a lot, right? And I’ve gotten pretty jacked, if I may say so myself. But then comes the tricky part – finding a suit that actually fits. Most suits off the rack? Forget about it. They’re either too tight in the arms or way too loose in the waist. It’s a real struggle.
So, I started looking into it, asking around, you know? First, I went to a few different stores, tried on a bunch of different cuts. Some were okay, most were terrible. I felt like I was stuffed in them. And the shoulders? Don’t even get me started.
I realized I needed to change my approach. After a lot of trial and error, I figured a few things out.
Fabrics and Patterns
First, the fabric and patterns. I used to go for thick, heavy fabrics, thinking they looked more, I don’t know, substantial? But they just made me look bigger, and not in a good way.
- Thin fabrics are the way to go. They drape better over muscles.
- Stick to stripes or subtle patterns. Nothing too crazy. The goal is to streamline the look, not add bulk.
Colors
Next up, colors. I used to be all about those bright, bold colors. Thought they’d make me stand out. And they did, but maybe a bit too much. It was like, “Hey, look at the huge guy in the bright blue suit!” Not the vibe I was going for.
- Neutral colors are your friends. Think navy, gray, maybe a dark brown. They’re slimming and they just look more sophisticated.
Shoulder Padding
Then there’s the whole shoulder situation. A lot of suits have these massive shoulder pads. For some guys, they work, but for me, they were a disaster. I already have broad shoulders, so adding more padding just made me look like a linebacker.
- Minimal or no shoulder padding. That’s the key. Let your natural physique do the talking.
Accessorizing
Finally, accessories. I used to overdo it with the accessories. Big watches, loud ties, all that stuff. But I learned that less is more, especially when you’re already a big guy.
- Keep it simple. A nice, understated watch, a simple tie, maybe a pocket square if you’re feeling fancy.
It took a while, but I finally figured out how to dress my muscular frame in a suit. It’s all about finding the right balance, choosing the right fabrics, colors, and fit. And honestly, the biggest thing is just feeling confident in what you’re wearing. Once you nail that, you’re golden.
