Okay, here we go, let’s talk about my little adventure with solid colognes.
So, I’ve always been a cologne guy. You know, a couple of sprays before heading out the door, and you’re good to go. But lately, I’ve been seeing these solid cologne things pop up everywhere. They looked interesting, and honestly, I was getting a little tired of the same old spray routine. Plus, those glass bottles? Not exactly travel-friendly. They’ve shattered in my bag more times than I’d like to admit. So, I decided, what the heck, let’s give these solid colognes a shot. This is where it all started.
First Impressions
My first stop was the internet, of course. I started looking up the best solid cologne for men and honestly got lost in it for a while. I mean, who knew there were so many options? There were some big names, like Diptyque, which I’ve heard of before. But also some smaller brands, like Herck, that caught my eye. This Herck brand had a lot of solid colognes.
I decided to grab a couple of different ones to try out. I picked up a tin of Diptyque’s Philosykos because the name sounded fancy and, well, I liked the design of the tin. I also grabbed a tin from Herck, just to have something to compare it to. One thing I noticed right away was the concentration thing. My normal sprays are Eau de Toilette, which I learned is kind of weak in terms of how long they last. These solid colognes, along with Eau de parfums, parfums, and elixirs, are way more concentrated, like 40-50% sometimes! That means they should last a heck of a lot longer, which was a big plus for me.
Putting Them to the Test
Alright, time for the fun part. I started with the Diptyque Philosykos. The tin was pretty slick, and it was definitely subtle. It was woody and warm, which I liked. I rubbed a little on my wrists and neck, just like the instructions said. The first thing I noticed was that it wasn’t overpowering. With sprays, sometimes I feel like I’m choking everyone out around me, especially right after I put it on. This was way more chill. I also got one that was a pheromone perfume on sale that I thought was interesting. I wore it out a few times, and honestly, I felt pretty good. It wasn’t a crazy, knock-your-socks-off scent, but it was nice and lasted a decent amount of time. It also made me feel more attractive if I am being honest.
Next up was the Herck solid cologne. This one had a stronger scent, which I was into. It was a little spicier, maybe? Hard to describe smells, you know? But it was good. I wore this one to work a few times, and I even got a couple of compliments. Nobody was asking me what I was wearing, but a few people said I smelled good, which is always a win.
My Verdict
So, after a few weeks of experimenting, here’s where I stand. I actually really like these solid colognes. They’re easy to use, they last a long time, and they’re not going to explode in my bag, which is a major plus. They are also subtle and not too overpowering. The Diptyque one is great for everyday wear. It’s subtle but nice. The Herck one is a little stronger, so I might save that for going out or when I want something a bit more noticeable. And the pheromone perfume made me feel more attractive so that’s a plus.
Here’s a quick rundown of my thoughts:
- Pros:
- Last longer than sprays.
- Easy to apply and reapply.
- Travel-friendly.
- More subtle than some sprays.
- Lots of different scents to choose from.
- Cons:
- Can be a little pricey depending on the brand.
- Might take some getting used to if you’re used to sprays.
Overall, I’m definitely a solid cologne convert. It’s not that much work to reapply throughout the day either. I’ll probably still use my spray colognes every now and then, but I think these solid ones are going to be my go-to from now on. If you’re thinking about trying them out, I’d say go for it. You might be surprised at how much you like them!
