Okay, so, I was planning this trip, right? And I’m like, super into using spray sunscreen because, you know, it’s just so easy to apply. But then I hit this snag – could I even bring it on the plane? I mean, I’ve heard all sorts of things about what you can and can’t take on flights, so I decided to dig in and figure it out for myself.
Checked Some Stuff
First, I checked the official Transportation Security Administration (TSA) website. It’s always best to go straight to the source, you know? And guess what? It turns out that spray sunscreen is actually okay, but there’s a catch.
So they have this rule about liquids, gels, and aerosols for carry-ons – everything has to be in containers that are 3.4 ounces or smaller. And all these small containers have to fit in a single, quart-sized bag. And each person is allowed to carry only one bag.
I grabbed one of my spray sunscreens to check the size, it was way bigger than that. Bummer. But I was not giving up that easily. I needed to bring it with me.
I also looked into checked bags. I found it is allowed to put larger containers in the checked bag. The rule is up to 17 ounces per container. So, I could bring my regular-sized spray sunscreen if I checked my bag. Good to know!
- Carry-on: 3.4 oz or smaller, fits in one quart-sized bag.
- Checked bags: Up to 17 oz.
My Takeaway
So, here’s the deal. I can bring my spray sunscreen, but I have to either get a smaller container that fits the carry-on rules or put my regular one in my checked luggage. It’s a bit of a hassle, but hey, it’s better than getting it taken away at security.
And another thing I stumbled upon is that some of these spray sunscreens use propellants like isobutane, which aren’t great for the environment. I mean, I’m not saying I’m going to single-handedly destroy the planet with my sunscreen, but it’s something to think about, you know? Maybe I’ll look into more eco-friendly options for next time.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure in figuring out the whole spray sunscreen on a plane situation. Hope this helps someone out there planning their trip and wondering about the same thing!
