Okay, so I’ve been thinking about getting a Chevrolet SS for a while now. It’s a pretty cool car, looks kinda low-key but packs a punch. But before I actually do anything, I wanted to really check out how reliable these things are. You know, so I don’t end up with a money pit.
I started digging around online, reading forums, reviews, and whatnot. I learned that the SS was made from 2013 to 2017, so there’s a decent number of them out there, but apparently, only like 12,924 or so were ever made. Pretty rare, huh? Not as rare as some other cars, but still.
Now, when it comes to reliability, it seems like the 2017 model is the way to go. People say to avoid the 2014, 2015, and 2016 models. Apparently, those years had some issues with power steering and some safety stuff. Not good. So, 2017 it is.
Then I started looking at how long these cars last. It looks like they can go for around 200,000 miles, which is pretty decent, I guess. They should hit 170,000 without a hitch, and even 150,000 shouldn’t be too rough. My old 2008 G8, which I traded in to get an SS, had close to 90,000 miles.
What about repairs? I found one guy online who said he had over 50,000 miles on his SS and hadn’t spent a dime on repairs. Of course, that’s just one person, but it’s a good sign, right?
I also checked out this site called *, but there were only two reviews for the Chevelle SS, which is an older model but still a Chevy, so I figured it was worth a look. They were from 1968-1972, so a little dated. Still, any info helps.
- Research: Spent hours reading forums and articles.
- Model Year: Decided to focus on the 2017 model.
- Mileage: Found out the average lifespan is around 200,000 miles.
- Personal accounts: Heard a few stories from owners, mostly positive.
- 2014-2016 models: Learned these models might have problems.
After all this digging, I felt pretty good about the 2017 Chevy SS. It seems like a solid car, as long as you avoid those earlier models. I even found some forum threads from way back in 2014 where people were just starting to talk about buying them. Man, they were excited. It’s pretty cool to see how it started.
The Decision
So, yeah, I think I’m gonna go for it. I’m gonna start looking for a used 2017 Chevy SS. I’m pretty excited. It seems like a fun car to drive, and hopefully, it won’t give me too many headaches. Wish me luck!
