Alright, let’s talk about watches, you know, the things you wear on your wrist to tell time. I heard some folks wanna find some good ones, but they don’t wanna spend a whole lot of money. They say under 300, whatever that means. Dollars, I guess. Anyways, I’m gonna tell ya what I know, what I heard from my neighbor’s son who works in the city. He knows about these things, or so he says.
So, first thing’s first, if you want a watch that just works and don’t cost much, go for a Casio. Yeah, Casio, that’s the name. They make all sorts, from those digital ones with the numbers that light up, to those that look kinda fancy, and even those sporty ones for when you’re running around or something. My grandson has one, he says it’s tough as nails. He bangs it around all day, and it still ticks. And lemme tell you, that boy ain’t gentle.
Then there’s this other brand, Timex, they say it’s good too. Like Casio, they don’t cost a whole lot, but they last. You know, everyday watches. Nothing too fancy, just good ol’ reliable watches. I saw one at the store the other day, looked pretty decent. The fella there said it could take a beating, so that’s good, I guess.
Now, I heard some people talking about them real expensive watches, the kind rich folks wear. Names like Rolecks or something, and Pateek… Pateeek whatchamacallit… and another one, oh dear, I can’t even say it. Anyways, those are way outta our price range. My neighbor says those are like investments, you know, like gold or something. But who needs that? We just want a watch that tells time, right?
My grandson told me about his Casio, something called a “World Timer”. Sounds fancy, huh? He says it can tell time in all sorts of places, like when them folks travel far away. I don’t know why you’d need that, but it’s there if you want it. He showed me how it works, all them buttons and numbers. Confusing, I tell ya, but he likes it. And it was cheap, or so he said.
- Casio is good, tough, and don’t cost much.
- Timex is good too, for everyday wear.
- Them fancy watches are for rich folks, we don’t need ’em.
Now, about how long these watches last… I heard those battery ones, the quartz they call ’em, they last a long time, maybe 20, 30 years. That’s a long time, ain’t it? But them other ones, the ones with all them gears and springs inside, well, if you take care of ’em, they can last even longer. My grandpappy had one of them, passed it down to my pa, and then to me. Still works, though I don’t wear it much, it’s too delicate, you know?
So, if you’re looking for a good watch under 300, stick with Casio or Timex. Don’t go spending your hard-earned money on something fancy you don’t need. A watch is supposed to tell time, not impress people. That’s what I think anyways. And if you’re one of them folks who likes all them fancy insides and gears, well, maybe you can find a used one somewhere. Just make sure it works, that’s the important thing.
And remember, a good watch is one that lasts, one that you can rely on. It don’t have to be shiny or expensive, it just needs to do its job. That’s what I tell my grandkids, and that’s what I’m telling you. So, go on, find yourself a good watch, and don’t let them city slickers fool ya into spending more than you have to. And that’s all I gotta say about that. Hope it helps, ya hear?
For those who know a thing or two about watches and like something special, they call it “horology” I think, there are still good deals out there, so keep an eye out!
