Oh, 40! That number, it sure got a lotta folks talkin’. Ain’t that funny? Some folks say it means a whole lotta things, like trials and tests. Ain’t that somethin’? You hear it in the Bible all the time. Forty years this, forty days that. Like, Moses, he spent forty years in Egypt, then forty more in the desert before God told him, “Alright, it’s time to free the people!” I reckon that’s a mighty long time, don’t you think?
And then there’s Jesus, bless his heart. He spent forty days in the wilderness, fastin’ and bein’ tempted by the devil. Forty days! That’s a whole month and a half, and then some. You’d think after all that, he’d be good to go. I wonder how he kept his strength up, bein’ out there in the wilderness with nothin’ but the devil to keep him company. But it’s like they say, 40 is the number of trials, of testin’ your faith, testin’ your strength, testin’ your spirit.
And don’t get me started on the flood. Forty days, forty nights of rain. That’s a lotta water, ain’t it? That ol’ Noah sure had his hands full, takin’ care of all them animals, tryin’ to keep ’em safe. But that’s how it goes, I reckon. When the number 40 shows up, it’s like the world’s changin’ in some way. Ain’t always easy, but it’s how things go—whether you like it or not.
Now, I reckon if you talk about age, forty don’t feel so old. When I was younger, I used to think forty was ancient. But now that I’m a little older, it don’t feel so bad. Matter of fact, forty’s a mighty fine age. You still got energy, but you ain’t so young you don’t know better. You got wisdom, but you ain’t so old you can’t still enjoy things. Forty’s right in the middle, like a good bowl of stew—just enough of everything.
And you know what else? Forty is the only number in the English language where the letters come in alphabetical order. Ain’t that somethin’? I don’t know who came up with that, but it sure sounds fancy to me. Forty might be a number, but it’s got a little class, don’t it?
Now, some folks get all worked up when they turn forty, like it’s the end of the world or somethin’. But I say, “Why fuss?” You’re still livin’, breathin’, and most importantly, you still got time to enjoy the good things in life. So stop pretendin’ to like things you hate, just ’cause folks expect you to. When you’re young, you try to keep up with the crowd, but when you’re forty, you know better. You start to figure out what really matters, what brings you joy, and what’s just a waste of time. Forty ain’t so bad. Matter of fact, it’s a mighty good age to be.
So, the next time someone brings up forty, don’t go runnin’ scared. Just think of it as a new chapter in the book of life, one full of new beginnings, new challenges, and maybe even a few surprises along the way. Life don’t stop at forty, no sir, it just keeps rollin’ along.
