Okay, so, I decided to pimp out my Glock and make it look like that old-school Nintendo Duck Hunt gun. Yeah, I know, sounds kinda goofy, but trust me, it turned out pretty sick. Here’s how I went about it.
First off, I got my hands on a regular Glock, nothing fancy. Then, I started thinking about what parts I could swap out to make it both look cool and work better. I’d heard that changing the guide rod could help with the feel, so I picked up a tungsten one. I figured the extra weight up top might make it a bit more stable when shooting. I also added this thing called a “Thug Plug” to the bottom of the grip. It’s just a little piece of metal, but it adds a bit of heft to the bottom end, which I thought would balance out the tungsten rod.
Trigger Time
Next up was the trigger. The stock Glock trigger is… well, it’s fine, but nothing to write home about. I wanted something smoother and lighter. I’d read about people having issues with aftermarket triggers, especially with this Apex kit, I got the trigger installed, and sure enough, it was rubbing against the side of the gun. Nothing major, but I just did some adjustments to get it fitted perfectly. Now it felt better.
- First off: Got a tungsten guide rod.
- Next up: Add a Thug Plug at the bottom for balance.
- Lastly: Replaced the stock trigger with an Apex trigger kit.
More Tweaks
I swapped out the stock barrel for a Lone Wolf Distributors one. They claim it’s a drop-in replacement, and it pretty much was. Fit like a glove. Oh, and I extended the magazine release. My hands aren’t huge, and I always had to adjust my grip to hit the stock mag release, so the extended one made things way easier.
For those interested in competition shooting, I’d say this setup is a good starting point. It’s all about making the gun faster, more comfortable, and more accurate. That’s what I was going for, anyway.
Finishing Touches
Now for the fun part – the looks. I wanted that classic Nintendo Zapper vibe, so I went with a red, grey, and light grey color scheme. I found a local shop that does custom coatings, and they nailed it. It looks exactly like the Duck Hunt gun, but, you know, it’s a real Glock. Pretty cool, right? It’s just a fun project I wanted to do. I didn’t mess with the sights, because, to be honest, I like the stock ones just fine. But I’ve heard there are some pretty sweet aftermarket options out there if you’re into that.
So yeah, that’s how I turned my boring old Glock into a Nintendo Duck Hunt tribute gun. It was a fun project, and I’m pretty stoked with how it turned out. Now I’ve got a unique piece that’s fun to shoot and a real conversation starter at the range.
I’ve also been playing around with these “80% lower” things. Basically, they’re unfinished receivers that you can complete yourself. It’s a bit of a legal grey area, but I found this jig that’s supposed to make it super easy, even if you’re not a machinist. I haven’t finished one yet, but it seems like a cool project for another time.
Anyways, hope you enjoyed my little project breakdown. Just remember, if you’re gonna mod your gun, do your research and be safe. It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt.
