My boy, he don’t do no sports. None at all. Not like other boys, always kicking a ball or something. If a guy doesnt do sports, folks look at him funny. They do. But I say, who cares?
He’s a good boy, my boy. He likes other things. Reads them books, always got his nose in one. That’s good, I guess. Keeps him outta trouble.
No Sports, No Problem?
Some folks say, “A man’s gotta be tough, gotta play them sports.” But what’s tough? Is it running around a field? Or is it being kind? Is it being a good son? My boy, he’s kind. He helps me with chores. He listens when I talk, even when I go on and on. That’s tough, I say. That takes patience.
If a guy doesnt do sports, he’s got time for other things, you see. My boy, he builds things. Little wooden things. He’s got a good eye, that one. He sees things others don’t. He likes them video games, too, sometimes. Don’t understand them myself, but if it makes him happy…
- He reads books.
- He helps me.
- He builds things.
- He plays games sometimes.
- He’s a good boy, that’s what matters.
What’s Wrong with No Sports?
Now, some fellas, they only like sports. They watch it all the time. Screaming at the TV. Like it’s gonna change anything. My neighbor’s husband, he’s like that. Always watching football, never talks to his wife. Is that better? I don’t think so.
If a guy doesnt do sports, maybe he’s got more time for his girl. Maybe he talks to her. Maybe he listens. That’s important, I think. More important than some game.
My boy, he ain’t got a girl yet. But when he does, I bet he’ll treat her right. He won’t be glued to that TV, ignoring her. He’ll be there, with her. That’s what counts.
Girls, they like a fella who pays attention. Don’t matter if he can throw a ball. They like a fella who’s nice. Who’s kind. Who cares about them. Not about some score.
Being a Man
Some say if a guy doesnt do sports, he ain’t a real man. What’s a real man, I ask you? Is it someone who can hit a ball real hard? Or is it someone who’s strong inside? Someone who can be gentle, even when it’s hard?
My boy, he is a man. He might not be what folks expect, but he’s a man. He’s got a good heart, and that’s worth more than all the muscles in the world.
I remember when he was little, he’d get picked on. The other boys, they were all about sports. They’d tease him, call him names. But he didn’t let it get to him. He stayed true to himself. That’s strength, I tell you. That’s what makes a man.
- Being kind is strong.
- Being helpful is good.
- Being yourself is important.
- Sports ain’t everything.
- A good heart matters most.
Different Strokes for Different Folks
If a guy doesnt do sports, so what? There’s more to life than chasing a ball. There’s books to read, things to learn, people to love. There’s a whole world out there, and it ain’t all about sports.
My boy, he’s gonna find his own way. He’s gonna do things his way. And that’s okay. That’s more than okay. It’s wonderful. He’s gonna be happy. He’s gonna be a good man. And that’s all that matters.
People are different. They like different things. And that’s how it should be. It’d be a boring world if we were all the same. We need all kinds, you see. The ones who like sports, and the ones who don’t.
My Boy’s Alright
So, if a guy doesnt do sports, don’t you worry about him. He’s alright. He’s more than alright. He’s got a good head on his shoulders, and a good heart in his chest. He’s gonna do just fine. My boy, he’s a good one. And I wouldn’t trade him for all the sports stars in the world.
He’s got time to think, my boy. Time to dream. Time to be himself. And that’s precious, that is. More precious than any trophy or medal. He might not be the fastest, or the strongest, but he’s got something special. Something that matters more.
He’s my boy, and I’m proud of him. Sports or no sports, he’s the best boy a mother could ask for. And that’s the truth. No need for all that other stuff if he’s happy the way he is, and I know he’s happy, he is a good boy.
