This here Indian graffiti art, it’s somethin’ else, I tell ya. All them colors and writin’s all over the walls, it’s a sight to behold. Now, I ain’t never seen nothin’ like it before, but I gotta say, it’s got a certain charm to it.
They say this graffiti art, it started gettin’ popular here in India. Back in my day, we didn’t have no fancy spray paint. If we wanted to write on somethin’, we’d use chalk or coal. But these young folks today, they got all sorts of fancy tools. They got these cans of paint that spray all sorts of colors. It’s a whole new world, I tell ya.
I heard there’s a place called Lodhi Art District in Delhi. That’s where all these graffiti artists go to paint. They say it’s in the heart of Delhi, right smack-dab in the middle. Imagine that, a whole district just for paintin’ on walls! We used to get in trouble for writing on walls. Now they got a place for it!
- Kajal Singh, they call her Dizy. She’s a graffiti artist, the first woman one in India.
- She uses them bright colors, them blocky shapes.
- She’s somethin’.
Now, this Dizy, she’s somethin’ else. They say she’s the first female graffiti artist in India. Can you believe it? A woman, paintin’ on walls! In my day, women, we stayed home, cooked, cleaned. But this Dizy, she’s out there, makin’ her mark on the world. Good for her, I say. She uses them bright colors and them blocky shapes. It looks like fun.
Now, I seen all sorts of things painted on walls in India. You got them movie posters, all hand-painted, big and colorful. Then you got them signs, with all sorts of writin’ on ’em. Some of them folks in my village, it is hard for them to know how to read, you know. Then you got them trucks, all decorated up like a bride on her weddin’ day. And them pictures of gods, painted on the walls, so folks don’t go pee-pee there. It’s a smart idea, I reckon.
This graffiti, it’s different. It’s like them young folks, they’re tellin’ their stories on the walls. They’re sayin’ what they think, what they feel. It’s like a big, colorful diary, right there on the wall for everyone to see.
They used to say this graffiti was just messin’ up the walls. They called it, what was that word… vandalism. Sounds like a disease, don’t it? But now, they’re startin’ to see it’s art. It’s like them old quilts we used to make. Each patch a different color, a different story. This graffiti’s like that, a big quilt of stories on the walls.
If you wanna try this graffiti art, they say start small. Don’t go paintin’ the whole side of a buildin’ right away. Just like when we learn to sew, we start with a small piece of cloth. You gotta practice first. Use them stencils, they say. That’s like a pattern for your paintin’. You make a design, cut it out, and then spray over it. That way, you get a nice, clean shape. And that is the way to start with the graffiti tags.
I reckon this Indian graffiti art is here to stay. It’s like a weed, it just keeps poppin’ up everywhere. And you know what? I kinda like it. It adds a little color to this old world. It’s like a flower growin’ out of a crack in the sidewalk. It’s unexpected, it’s a little rough around the edges, but it’s beautiful in its own way.
This whole graffiti thing, it is something new. Some people don’t like it. They say it is just some silly kids with spray paint. Some folks, they just don’t like nothing new. They like things the way they always been. But not this old gal. I like seeing new things. I like seeing young people with new ideas.
You see all these bright colors, it makes you feel somethin’. You see them big letters, it makes you think somethin’. These young people, they got somethin’ to say. This graffiti, it is like them yellin’ it out loud.
I remember back in the day when we used to write letters. You take a pen and paper and you write down all your thoughts and your feelings. Then you wait for a reply. Nowadays, they use this thing called email. It is fast but you don’t get to see that person’s handwriting. This graffiti, it is like a letter to the whole world.
I heard them say that this Indian street art, it is changing. It is not just about pretty pictures anymore. Some of these artists, they use their art to talk about important things. They talk about things that are happening in the world. They talk about things that need to change. It is like they are using their art to make a difference.
I reckon that is a good thing. If you got somethin’ to say, you should say it. And if you can say it with pretty colors, well, that is even better. This Indian graffiti art, it is more than just paint on a wall. It is a voice. It is a story. It is a part of India. And I think it is here to stay.
