So, I finally got my hands on the Leica Q3. Man, this thing is something else. I’ve always been a Nikon guy, shooting with SLRs, but I decided to take the plunge and see what this Leica hype is all about. First thing I did? Started hunting for a bag, naturally. I mean, you gotta protect your investment, right?
The Q3 itself, it’s a compact camera, which is a whole new world for me. Fixed lens, 28mm, f/1.7. The lens alone, if you were to buy a Leica M lens like it, would set you back a few grand. That kind of put the price of the Q3 into perspective for me. It’s still expensive, no doubt, but when you think about the quality of that Summilux lens, it feels a bit more justified. They say it’s got 11 elements in 9 groups, with 3 of ’em being aspherical. Sounds fancy, and it feels fancy. The lens hood is cool too, screws in real tight, no wobbling or anything.
I’ve never really been into those half-cases for cameras, but with the Q3, it felt like a good idea. Plus, you hear stories about how well Leicas hold their value. Apparently, you can sell them later on and get most, if not more, of your money back. That’s a pretty sweet deal. I’ve heard people say that it’s one of the best everyday carry cameras. It’s a big investment, but it’s a Leica. And the craftsmanship is something else. Each one is put together by hand, you know? It just feels solid and reliable.
- First, I just carried it around in my everyday backpack. That was fine for a day or two, but I quickly realized I needed something more dedicated. This thing’s too precious to just be knocking around with my other stuff.
- Then, I looked at some generic camera bags. You know, the ones you can pick up at any camera store. They were okay, functional, but nothing special. And honestly, they didn’t feel like they matched the quality of the Q3. It felt wrong, somehow.
- Next, I started looking at the specific Leica half cases. They looked nice, very sleek, very… Leica. But I wanted something more. Something with some space for a few extras.
- Finally, I found this one bag. It is leather, I love the leather bag. It’s got a nice strap, and it’s just the right size to fit the Q3 snugly. There’s a little extra room for maybe an extra battery or a cleaning cloth. It’s perfect. It feels like it was made for the Q3, which, it probably was.
So, yeah, that’s my Leica Q3 bag story. It might seem like a small thing, finding the right bag, but it makes a difference. It’s about more than just protection, it’s about matching the quality of the bag to the quality of the camera. And this bag, it does just that. This bag makes me feel I’m ready to go out and shoot something great. Just grab it and go, that’s the feeling I love.
