Alright, so today I wanna talk about something that’s been on my mind lately: locker room etiquette. I hit the gym pretty regularly, and I’ve seen some things, man. Some things that just make you scratch your head and wonder, “What were they thinking?”
So, first off, I got into the gym, did my workout, and headed to the locker room. The first thing I noticed, as always, is to keep moving. This isn’t your bathroom at home where you can lounge around. I get undressed, but I try to be discreet about it. I mean, nobody wants to see all that, right? So I keep my towel handy and do my best to cover up.
- Getting Changed: I found a relatively empty spot, and put down my gym bag. I tried to be quick about it, swapping out my sweaty gear for some fresh clothes. I’ve seen guys just stand there, completely bare, scrolling on their phones. That’s just weird, man.
Then, it’s shower time. Now, I’ve learned that the key here is speed. You don’t want to be that guy hogging the shower for half an hour. I got in, did my thing, and got out. Five minutes, tops. I kept my toiletries in a little bag, so they were easy to grab and put away.
- Showering: I went for the quick rinse. In and out, no dilly-dallying. Some guys, though, they treat it like a spa day. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, loofah, the whole nine yards. It’s a shared space, guys, let’s be considerate.
After the shower, I dried off as quickly as possible. Again, with the towel. I’m not trying to air-dry in a public space. Once I was dry, I got dressed, packed up my stuff, and got out of there.
- Post-Shower: Quick towel-dry, then back into my clean clothes. I made sure to wipe down any water I splashed around, and I tossed my used towel in the hamper. Easy peasy.
My two cents
Look, it’s not rocket science. The locker room is a shared space. Just be mindful of the people around you. Get in, get your stuff done, and get out. Nobody’s there to admire your physique or your extensive grooming routine. Keep it quick, keep it clean, and keep it moving. That’s all there is to it, really. Just be a decent human being, you know?
And one more thing, from my observations, there’s always that one guy, right? The one who has to make a big show of everything. Talking loudly on his phone, leaving his stuff all over the place, taking forever in the shower. Don’t be that guy. Seriously, just don’t. I tried to avoid any trouble, so I just did my stuff and did not pay too much attention to others.
So yeah, that’s my take on locker room etiquette. It’s all about common sense and a little bit of consideration for others. Let’s all try to make the gym a more pleasant place, one shower at a time.
