Well, I heard some folks talking ’bout this “rock nail polish” thing, and I thought, what in the tarnation is that? Back in my day, we didn’t have all these fancy colors. We just had dirt under our nails from workin’ in the garden. But these young’uns today, they got all sorts of colors, like a rainbow threw up on their fingers.
The Colors of Nail Polish
Blue Nail Polish, they say, is gonna be real popular. Like the sky on a clear day, that kind of blue. They call it “baby blue” or somethin’. I reckon it’s pretty, but I don’t know if I’d wear it. My hands are too rough for that delicate color.

And pink nail polish, oh lordy, that was the color last summer, like every gal had pink nails. Like a bunch of flamingos walkin’ around. It’s a bright color, I’ll give it that. But I seen some of them with that shiny stuff, like glitter, but not chunky, you know? They call it “chrome” or somethin’. Fancy word for shiny, I guess.
Nail Polish Trends
They say there’s gonna be some big trends. I don’t know what that means, really. Just means what colors everyone’s gonna be wearin’, I suppose. These young folks and their trends. Back in my day, we wore what we had, and that was that. These days got “come back nail trends”. These trends come and go faster than a chicken with its head cut off. And these things called press on nails. They’re like fake nails you glue on. They’re suppose to actually stay on your nail now a days.
Deep red nail polish and brown nail polish, that’s what they say is gonna be in. Like the color of fall leaves, you know? Makes sense, I guess. Fall time is for them warm colors. Like a cozy blanket. And they say they’ll have little bits of green or blue in ’em. Like a surprise, I suppose.
Nail Polish for Everyone
I heard ’em sayin’ that bright colors are gonna be popular too. Like them primary colors, red, blue, yellow. Like a box of crayons. Bold, they call it. I don’t know about bold. I just think it’s bright.
And what about nail polish for short nails? Well, they say square is the way to go. Makes ’em look neat, I reckon. And for long nails, they say “almond.” Like the nut, you know? Makes your hands look all fancy and delicate. Almond, they call it. Makes your hands look all long and lady-like. But I still seen lots of them square nails, too. That almond just feels like the “right” thing right now.
Rock Nail Polish is…
So, this “rock nail polish,” I still don’t know exactly what it means. I think it’s just all these colors mixed together. Like a rock, you know? All them different colors and patterns. That’s my guess, anyway. But these young folks, they always comin’ up with somethin’ new.
But I think it means havin’ nails that look tough, like a rock. Maybe dark colors, like black or gray. Maybe with some of that shiny stuff in it, like a rock with some minerals in it. That’s what I think, anyway. I seen some of them girls with black nail polish. Looks like they been diggin’ in the coal mine, if you ask me.
But hey, who am I to judge? If they like it, they like it. It’s their hands. They can do what they want with ’em. I’m just an old lady, set in my ways. I ain’t gonna be wearin’ no black nail polish. Or blue, or pink, or any of them other colors. I’m happy with my plain old nails. They may be rough and dirty, but they’re strong. Just like me.
I guess what I’m tryin’ to say is, this “rock nail polish” is just another way for folks to express themselves. Like wearin’ different clothes or different hats. It’s all about what you like. And if you like wearin’ colors that look like rocks, then you go right ahead.
Just don’t come cryin’ to me when you chip your nail polish tryin’ to open a pickle jar. These old hands may not be pretty, but they sure are useful. And that’s somethin’ these young folks should remember. Beauty fades, but a good strong pair of hands will always be in style. These “rock nail polish” trends come and go like the seasons. But a good strong work ethic, that’s somethin’ that lasts forever.
