Okay, so, I hit the gym a lot, right? And finding a suit that fits right? Forget about it! It’s like, either I’m swimming in fabric or I’m about to Hulk out of the thing. So, I went on this whole mission to figure out how to make suits work for guys with muscles like me.
First off, I started trying on suits at every store in town. Department stores, those fancy suit shops, you name it. Most of the time, it was a total fail. The jackets were always too tight in the shoulders and biceps, and the pants? Don’t even get me started on the thighs. It was seriously like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.
The Search Begins
- Tried on regular fit suits – Nope. Too boxy and baggy.
- Tried slim fit suits – Absolutely not! Felt like I was wearing a straight jacket.
- Hit up a few local tailors for advice – They were all over the place. No clear answers.
Then, I started digging around online. I was reading all these articles, and it was a lot of the same stuff. Some folks were saying to go with a regular fit and just get it tailored, but I felt like that was just covering up the problem, not fixing it. Plus, I ain’t made of money for that many tailor visits.
After more searching, I found some stuff about how bodybuilders deal with this, which got me thinking. I mean, those guys are HUGE, so if they can find suits that work, surely I can too. This led me to this “muscle fit” idea from some brand called Topman. Sounded promising, but who knows?
I also started paying more attention to my body and how clothes actually fit. I really focused on the exercises that were building up my lats – you know, those muscles that give you that V-shape. Turns out, those were a big part of the problem. Regular suit jackets just aren’t designed for that kind of build. I did a lot of exercises for this, mostly rows and pull-ups.
I decided that the whole shoulder padding thing was a no-go. It just added bulk where I didn’t need it. I mean, I’ve got enough going on in the shoulder department, thank you very much. I also realized looking confident is important. When I was trying stuff on, I would look at myself and try to see what looked good but also confident, and not just like some meathead in a suit.
After all this trial and error, I finally figured out a few things. One, “muscle fit” is definitely the way to go if you can find it. It’s made for guys with our build. Two, less shoulder padding is key. And three, tailoring is still your friend, but you want to find a tailor who actually understands how to work with athletic builds.
It was a long, frustrating process, but I finally got to a point where I could find suits that actually fit and looked good. It’s not perfect, but it’s a heck of a lot better than where I started. I thought I would share my experience on the web so that it can help someone else in the future. I feel good about myself now when I have to dress up. I hope my experience helps others feel good about themselves too when they need to put on a suit.
